Howdy Footy Tippers,
Well I am back and I am raring to go in our 2018 seasons comp.
Thanks to Sam for her very entertaining write up on the games and tips in my absence (even though they weren’t very good tips) I can now give you some more hot tips via all my inside contacts.
I have only seen one game so far this season and that was Port’s very tenacious win last week. They certainly have started off the season extremely well. The blessing of the year is that the AFL scheduled the first Showdown game way down in the 8th round this year rather than in the first 3 rounds like usual. This will allow some of the Crows to get over their injuries before the battle begins and the Crows extend to 6 in a row.
So this week hey.
CARLTON v COLLINGWOOD
Ok it's Friday night footy and one again it is Carlton taking the limelight for the first night game of the round (WTF).
The best thing for me knowing that this game is on tonight is so is the Commonwealth games. Plenty of Gold to watch out for in the pool!
Carlton were meant to be the big improvers this year but again they are just fluffy ducks. And Buck’s well still I am bemused at what Eddy sees in him. Again, last week, sure they were in it for a lot of the game, but again they lost like they kept doing all last year. In my continuing quest to pick a underdog I must be strong this year in my tipping and go against my gut.
Magpies 5 pts
PORT ADELAIDE v BRISBANE
Port at home are starting extremely short favourites and so they should be. Is this the game that Rockliff will show his prowess? With a 1:15 start my call is a crowd of 33,000 as even Port supporters will go have a picnic instead.
Power 43 pts
MELBOURNE v NORTH MELBOURNE
I am quite surprised here that Melbourne are such short favourites against the Roos. The Roos had a mighty strong win against St Kilda whilst Melbourne could only manage a 4 goal win and only kick 14 goals against Brisbane. I think this will be a lot closer game that the odds show. Possibly though Melbourne may just get up.
Demons 6 pts
GOLD COAST v FREMANTLE
Seems a bit harsh this game for Gold Coast having to have their home game in WA against home side Freo. Not sure why the AFL couldn’t have at least played this game in Darwin, Cairns or Alice for them. Maybe Gold Coast are getting a fair bit of dosh from the game. But travelling over to Freo for virtually an extra home game for them may just make the difference. I am hoping not though as I am a Gold Coast believer and think they will make the 8. If they can win this game over there, then yes indeed they will.
Dockers 18 pts
SYDNEY v GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY
The home town battle. I may be wrong but don’t GWS win most of these games whether favourite or not? Usually you would say that the Buddy factor will be the difference but we saw in the Port game last week that even Buddy can be in prime form but it isn’t enough with the other team mates not pulling their weight.
Giants 21 pts
The next half of the round is from Sam so let’s see if she can finish off the round with all winners like I have started with!
St Kilda v Adelaide
Saints will be desperate to hit back after that pathetic attempt at an AFL game last week, unfortunately for them their follow up game is against Adelaide. If an undermanned Adelaide can beat the Tigers there is no chance here for the Saints. Crows have a 7 game streak against the Saints (a club record) and 4 of them have been by more than 50 points. Adelaide will be without Matt Crouch for 3 weeks but last week proved they are more than a 1 man team.
Crows by 51pts
Richmond v Hawthorn
The Tigers are back at the MCG and as 1 Crows fan pointed out to a very Cranky Dimma they can’t win outside the MCG. Luckily for them they play 14 games at the G this year and so they don’t really need to win anywhere else. The Hawks are 2-0 and playing some good footy. Looks like last year the Hawks not making finals was just them taking a gap year. Mitchel had a bit of a bad game last week only racking up 40 disposals, so I expect him to lift his game this week. Dusty is unstoppable but when he is the only Tiger to rock up makes it a tough to win a game. I think the Hawks will fly circles around them
Hawks by 14pts
Western Bulldogs v Essendon
Doggies proved they are going to hover around the bottom of the ladder this year looking very average again last week. Stringer takes on his old club in the red and black and whilst he hasn’t really proved why he was a good recruitment decision his teammates don’t hate him yet so it’s one step at a time. Last week was the only game Daniher didn’t kick a goal in 40 games, I think he will come out firing and so will his fellow Bombers.
Bombers by 28pts
West Coast v Dangerablettwood
24 hours after Gold Coast host Freo at their home stadium we will see the Eagles v Geelong to close out the round. The Cats travel to Perth after their 1 point loss to Hawks, whilst the Eagles flew home happy actually beating a team in Melbourne last week. The Eagles will be hoping to rectify that flogging Buddy gave them in Round 1 and win their first game at the new stadium, but I think they will find it hard to stop Geelong’s midfield and still without Kennedy I don’t see them getting the W this week.
Cats by 10pts
Well there it is this week’s round in our eyes. Hope you enjoy the footy and the GOLD GOLD GOLD that will be on offer.
Catch you on Monday
Before I go though I would love it if you could look at my new testimonial video that has been produced. Click on the link below titled Craig’s story and tell me what you think.
