Round 2

Howdy ODV Footy Tipsters,

What a start last week hey? They say you never take much mind to the first round results but it certainly is very hard not to when you are doing your tips, don’t you think?

With so many upsets, that now look like they were just good results, one thing is if you or any of your friends that want to join the ODV footy tipping comp would like to get started they certainly are not going to be behind as the away teams dominated last week so in fact they or you would now have more than me!!

Let’s have a look at this weekend’s footy shall we, after all the weekend is long again and it all starts tonight.

Richmond v Collingwood

Interesting game here tonight that should pull another big crowd at the MCG. The Magpies surprisingly for me start off favourite tonight after their spirited contest last week against the current premiers. Was it do you think because they had 2 big come backs last week that kept them in the contest or was it because the Tigers victory mostly came from just one man Dusty Martin and most other boys just stood around watching him. For I think the Magpies only because of history. If Richmond win tonight they will be the first team EVER to win consecutive Thursday night games at the MCG! Now that is certainly a big weight on their shoulders if you ask me.

But you know me I am one for the team who are up against it.

Tigers 27 pts

Western Bulldogs v Sydney Swans

It’s the unfurling of the premiership flag and a grudge match after last year’s Grand Final. Bulldogs start favourite in this game and may stay favourite as long as no more than 55,000 people can be crammed into Etihad Stadium, this is because the Bulldogs have only ever, in their whole history, won 1 home and away game in front of a 55,000 plus crowd. Another heavy burden to carry. Beware of the Swans though as Buddy was still there last week ready to explode. As I have said before Sydney always start very slow but the 2nd game is a different story. Swans may just surprise and wreck the flag ceremony.

Swans 13 pts

Hawthorn v Adelaide

How good were the Crows last week and how disappointing were the Hawks? And that is how the result should be this week as well with what looks to be an even stronger side to come this week with the inclusion of Tex. BUT we seem to always hold our breath when the Crows go to Melbourne in a game they should win. Over the past couple of years at least they have seemed to do the job when we have swayed that way.

Crows 34 pts

GWS v Gold Coast

The Sunnies were very disappointing last week but at the same time did show a little, after all they were 40 plus points down at half time and then only lost by a kick or 2. The Giants on the other hand were just simply smashed by a magnificent side. The Giants got to watch out they do not listen to their own publicity and become complacent without actually doing anything. All the talk is that they are the mightiest side and that they will continue to be the mightiest for years upon years but infact they need to be mighty first. Ablett also ready to take them on single handed but won’t be enough this week.

Giants 28 pts

Brisbane  v Essendon

The two teams battling over wooden spoon last year both have a round 1 win under their belts. It was great to see the Bombers win just for their loyal fans, the emotion shown last week was that of winning a GF. It was also great seeing the Lions get up even if the fans or the players can’t remember the words to their song. Unfortunately both can’t win this game and I think the fast paced footy the Bombers showed last week will be too much for the Lions.

Bombers by 18pts

West Coast v St Kilda

The Saints came out to play last week… well for a quarter anyway then got flogged by the Dee’s. The only positive for the Saints last week was Riewoldt not doing his ACL.

Eagles started their home and away season with a great win over the Roo’s proving the heebee geebies they had playing away from home last year might be behind them.

Last year the Saints lost by 93 points to the Eagles.. so I’m predicting they will get smashed again this year and Kennedy to kick another bag full.

Eagles by 63pts

Geelong v North Melbourne

It’s never good to see a key forward get injured even if it is Jarrad Waite. I mean it will be pretty hard to replace a forward who kicks 1.7 in a game.

Geelong had a great win in the West against the Dockers and I don’t see them losing this game.

Geelong by 29pts

Melbourne v Carlton

This is the game all Dee’s fans will watch gritting their teeth, holding their breath and covering their eyes. Every game you think Melbourne will win easy are the ones they lose! Last year Melbourne had to beat the Blues to make finals and they didn’t even bother rocking up to the ground. Carlton are… I guess “rebuilding” or something and we all get to enjoy it whilst watching them lose and win the wooden spoon this year.

It’s a year for breaking  the footy hood-doo guru curse so I will pick..

Dees by 32pts

Port Adelaide v Fremantle

Oh the Power was on in South Australia last week. Why didn’t they put that as a headline in the papers around the Nation last week? Yes the Power ran rampant against the favoured Sydney on their home planet. The big question is can they do it again. They are certainly very fancied to do so especially after how disappointing the Dockers were last week. This though for me is a very very scary game. Fyffe looked good last week and this week he may be able to pull his boys together to disappoint an excited home crowd.

Dockers 3 pts

Enjoy your footy everyone and although I have picked the Dockers I do hope that we have another double dose of South Australian victories. Especially at Adelaide Oval.
