Ahoy hoy all you footy tippers,
Darren is away studying and learning at the moment so it’s been left to me to try and pick some winners.
Cannot believe it is already Winter and the first round of the bye week is upon us. Let’s have a look at the games.
Port Adelaide v Hawthorn
Thursday night footy at Adelaide Oval and it will be absolutely FREEEEZING. Where’s Tredrae’s glove when you need it hey?! Hawks had an unexpected victory last week and stuffed up everyone’s tips. Usually a win against the Swans would mean you are force to be reckoned with, perhaps not this year though. Port (and this is hard to say) played some pretty great footy against Geelong last week and only just missed out on the win.
Port at home + playing a team outside the 8 = Win
Geelong v Adelaide
Friday night footy is where it’s at this week. This game will be the must watch of the round. Geelong have steadied their season winning their past 2 games against Port and Bulldogs and Crows came to play last week as soon as the first siren was blown.
Crows haven’t won at the Cattery since Round 10, 2003, have only won 3 games there EVER and haven’t kicked over 100 points there since 2000. But that is all about to change! I know what you are thinking .. but this is the year the Crows break their losing records. First Hawks and now the Cats. If Crows are up after the first 1st quarter we will win the game.. plus I just can’t tip against them. Go you Crows!
Crows by 7pts
Gold Coast v West Coast
It’s a coast off this week. Kennedy averages 5 goals a game against the Suns, so with him out the pressure is on Darling to kick a bag full. The Eagles are doing ok and their loss at home last week shows they can lose anywhere. Suns are finally back home in QLD, will Ablett coming back in and their home ground advantage make for an interesting game and an upset win? Nahh I doubt it..
Greater Western Sydney v Essendon
Brendon Goddard plays his 300th game this week and for some reason people just don’t like him. I don’t hear many people saying “I wish Goddard played for our team” ha ha .. poor guy.
Unfortunately for him he plays that game against the red hot Giants at Spotless Stadium, doesn’t get much harder than that this year.
Giants are proving how easy it is to rise up the ladder when you are a product of the AFL. Their injury riddled list isn’t effecting the quality of footy they produce as one star player just gets replaced by another rising star.
Bombers wasted opportunities last week, but I’ve noticed Bombers seem to play better when they are the underdog beating Geelong and Eagles. Maybe if they bring that intensity they could cause a Giant upset here.
I am going to play it safe though..
Giants by 25pts
North Melbourne v Richmond
What a tipping nightmare!!! Flip a coin? 13th v 5th would usually be a no brainer, but who knows with these two teams? I am basing my tip on the North Melbourne hoodoo, Tigers have only won 1 game in the past 8 against the Roos.
North by 12pts
Fremantle v Collingwood
Freo copped a 100 point flogging from the Crows last week and goes to show no Sandilands no Freo. Collingwood have hit some form looking at taking out their third straight win. It is Collingwood though and they are about as unpredictable as it gets. If a week of Ross Lyon yelling at you can’t get you motivated I don’t know what will ..
Freo by 17pts
Enjoy the footy and have a great weekend.
